Santa Barbara Skies

Sunny Sky this weekend in Montectio

It was a beautiful weekend in Santa Barbara, the sun was out, it wasn’t freezing or raining, and it seemed like everyone was in a good mood. This picture was the view looking up from my driveway, bright and early in the morning!

Lovely, but chilly night at Butterfly beach

Butterfly beach is a classic spot in Santa Barbara, so many locals and tourists go there to enjoy the lovely beach. Butterfly Beach is especially pretty at night when you can see the full moon, the lights from the peer, the tall palm trees, and the glow of the city and the Coral Casino.

Butterfly beach with a lovely bright orange sky

Santa Barbara has so many amazing views and beautiful sunsets, this is just on of many on a lovely winter night.

The purple water at Butterfly beach that same night, right before the sky turned orange

I think that the winter has some of the most beautiful skies, the summer has its warm long nights, but the winter has those amazing bright clouds and vibrant sunsets, along with peaceful cool mornings.

Hope ranch beach back when it was still warm out at night
Hope ranch with Michelle, left, me middle, and Ella, right.

Hope Ranch is another one of my favorites. The path down to the beach makes you feel like your walking through Costa Rica, and the beach is private so when you make it down the path, there is never anyone there, it really does feel like a secluded island.

The sky the night of the Montectio Debris flow that devastated our community

This is the night sky when the mud slides happed, a very sad night for our whole community, the darkness and little bit of light in this picture reminds me of that night and how there will always be a little light to your darkness.

The hazy, foggy, and cold night, where the clouds basically touched the stand on Miramar Beach

Miramar beach is my favorite place in Santa Barbara, my parents would take me there almost every day during the summer when I was a baby up to when I was about 6, (thats when my sister was born.) Some of my best childhood memories were on that beach.

Bodhi the Piglet

Bodhi the cutest little piglet ever, he’s super snuggly and loves people

This is Bodhi, he is 9 months old. Most families don’t have pigs, but we’re not like most families. But I can tell you one thing for sure, i’m definately glad we have a piglet, its unique, fun, and just about the cutest thing you’ll ever see. Bodhi is so adorable, snuggly, and has the biggest personality, he can be a trouble maker sometimes though!

Baby Bodhi and baby brother Maddox, the cuties of the family

Bodhi is the sweetest pig ever, we got him from a mini pig breeder in Norco, CA, he has plenty of tiny brothers and sisters back home. Bodhi is Maddox’s favorite pet, sometimes they will even fall asleep together after a long hard day of running around and playing in the house.

Bodhi and Willow getting along great when we introduced him to the rest of the family
(all the other 14 pets)

Bodhi still gets along great with Willow to this day, even though he is much bigger now. The picture above is Bodhi in this make shift pen we made him, he was pretty shy when we first introduced him to Willow but now they’re best buds!

The grey dog in the picture is Kaya, she is 13 years old and still loves to snuggle up with Bodhi

You wouldn’t think that pigs and dogs get along so well but they really do! Kaya loves Bodhi and Bodhi loves Kaya. Bodhi always sleeps in Kaya’s bed, and when she wants to sleep too, they just snuggle up together for a nice nap.

Anyway, if your considering getting a mini pig just know that they eat a ton, and you have to make sure that you don’t turn them into a huge farm hog by feeding them everything in sight, that’s kind of what my mom is doing to Bodhi, he’s getting pretty fat!

Thanks for reading my blog this week, I hope you guys consider a mini pig as a pet, they really are great in the long run! Like and comment if you liked this weeks blog on Bodhi, and stayed tuned for next weeks addition of Hawkes Tales!

Oh Brothers

Maddox and his kitten Phoenix

Oh brothers, they are pretty crazy and fun, but definitely a handful. I have to say though, they make life a lot more exciting. Above, is Maddox with his kitten Phoenix. Maddox is four years old and we’ve had Phoenix for about 4 months. I was sick this week so Maddox and I spent a lot of time together just relaxing, watching movies, and playing with the kitten!

That cat doesn’t seem to be having all that much fun.

Maddox again, this time with a different kitten from the barn, he really loves cats.

This is Cole, he is 7 years old and he’s definitely the 2nd grade class clown. In this picture Cole stuffed his shirt with a pillow and surrounded himself with butter, chocolate sauce, cheese puffs, and chocolate chips, the most unhealthy things he could find in the house.

For some reason Maddox and the pig fell asleep together in Maddox’s bed! I don’t even know how that happened

Maddox and Cole with our little piglet, Bhodi! There are so many animals in our house, it seems like Cole and Maddox always have one in their arms.

This is Cole with Louie, a horse at the barn, getting all snuggled up of course!

Cole always loved this horse, Louie, they are both silly and full of energy, I guess thats why they get along so well. I feel like everywhere those brothers go they are getting into trouble. Maddox and Cole are definitely two little trouble makers. They’ll keep you on your toes, which sucks for me cause i’m the one always babysitting them!

Maddox on the right and Cole on the left, rocking the sunglasses and squirt gun.

These boys might be crazy but they sure are a blast. I couldn’t ask for better brothers and I’m very lucky to have these two amazing younger brothers in my life! As hard as it is to say, I love them and they mean the world to me.

Thanks for reading my blog this week, there will be plenty more where that came from.

Comment and stay tuned for next weeks!

Rainy Week

It was a crazy, cold, and rainy week in SB! But it definitely was beautiful at Butterfly beach in the moonlight. ~

Even though we were practically freezing, the moon was so bight and beautiful we had to see what it was like at the beach that late at night. Turns out it was a whole lot of cold mixed with a whole lot of pretty, at least this was before the storm.

Our entire back yard was flooded!~

During the heavy rains this week there was an evacuation in Montectio, that’s where I live. Our house was right in the middle of both evacuation zones, so we were told to “shelter in place,” that was apparently the safest thing to do. The rain was coming down hard Friday, and especially Saturday Morning. The freeways were flooded, the streets were flooded, and the creeks were full to the brim. It seemed like it was muddy and wet everywhere. Our family, pets and house was luckily ok, but there was some pretty serious flooding in our yard. My little siblings put on their rain gear, and played in the muddy mess for what seemed like hours. In the picture above, thats my little brother Cole, age 7, he’s very outdoorsy and the first thing he did was go straight to the newly formed swamp in our yard.

This is another picture of our yard, of course there are toys everywhere, it’s a mess!

The picture above is when the rain finally started to slow down, Saturday at around noon. The yard was like one huge puddle! We couldn’t let the pony out of her paddock for days, she would try to role in the water. But at least the kids had fun splashing around in the muddy water.

This is Paige all bundled up, posing on Stuart’s truck, with her phone she’s dropped about 100 times. ~

After the crazy storm that weekend, and some rain earlier that week it got sunny! But not the warm beach day sunny, the 36 degrees, ice on your windows sunny. It was cold!

This is Tiffany, warm and cozy in the MAD lounge.

During this cold weather the best thing to do is bundle up and find a cozy chair, the MAD lounge at Santa Barbara High is definitely one of the best places to get away from the cold this week.

Tiffany again, posing on the truck in the bright bright sun! ~ Peace!~

It was a cold and rainy week, but it was a fun one too, there are plenty of adventures to have even when your stuck at home, or trying to stay warm at school.

More blogs coming! Stay tuned for next week, and comment if you liked this weeks rainy day addition!

Backyard Rides with Willow

Maddox always wants to ride Willow with out a saddle, which is fun for him but pretty hard for me to follow him around making sure he doesn’t fall!

This is Willow, she’s a Welsh Pony that lives in our backyard. Willow is about 19 years old, and we got her two years ago. My mom found Willow through her friend who owns a ranch in Santa Ynes, where Willow was staying. She used to be a show pony, but now she’s a family pony that cruises the backyard with all the other animals and kids. Sitting on Willow is my little brother Maddox, he’s four and loves riding her around the yard, always in his cowboy boots.

Whenever there are left over apple cores, just open the window, and Willow’s there to help. She’s always looking for a quick snack to grab from the window or the nearest person.

My mom used to be horse trainer so all four of us have grown up riding and being around horses. When I was little I would come up to Santa Yes with her and play with all of the horses while she was working. So naturally I grew fond of them. When my siblings, especially my younger sister Leila, started to really get into to horses and riding, coincidentally Willow needed a home. My mom couldn’t think of a better opportunity, so we adopted Willow, sense then we haven’t stopped adding animals to the Hawkes family, were at 15! There are just so many different animals in our yard, they run into each other all the time! The pig in the front of the picture is our mini pig Bodhi. Willow gets along great with him, when she’s not practically stepping on him.

Aside from being the main focus in the yard, Willow loves to come into the house too. Anytime we have the doors open, she just walks right in. Sometimes we will just be sitting in the living room and all of a sudden she walks right in like she owns the place.
